Luxury almost like in Versailles – The ladies of Quedlinburg

18.02.2025

The Stiftsberg in Quedlinburg is one of 52 women's sites in Saxony-Anhalt. For 866 years, women ruled over the town and the abbey estate from the castle: one queen, 38 abbesses and hundreds of canonesses.

Together with the Women's Places Saxony-Anhalt network and the Saxony-Anhalt Museum Association, the municipal museums have produced a podcast about the progress of the construction work and the work on the new permanent exhibition. Pierre Gehmlich and Björn Menzel visited the construction site, which is inaccessible to visitors, together with museum director Uta Siebrecht and Anke Triller, coordinator of the Women's Places Saxony-Anhalt network.

The castle museum has been closed since 2020 for extensive structural repairs, barrier-free access to the buildings and the redesign of the exhibition. The podcast provides an insight into the progress of the work on the new museum and what it is like to create an exhibition in a World Heritage Site.
